It’s not very often you get to launch a brand new endeavor and share it with the world. It’s even rarer when your whole family is involved. But today is that day. The O’Connor family is starting our first-ever family blog and with this article we officially have liftoff.
We call the blog From Here to Eternity because we realize, as fellow travelers, we are all on the road to discovery for whatever time we are here on the planet. While we’re here we ought to laugh and love, learn and play together while we share time in the sandbox.
Our tagline is “Spirited Musings From an Improbable Family.” We intend this blog to be fun. We hope it will inform and uplift. Occasionally it may offend, though we hope not very often. It’s a place where each of us—Sally, Dusty, Bonnie, Shannon and myself—can stretch our artistic muscles and share a little piece of our lives and perspectives with old friends and new.
This is not just some one-way street we’re embarking on. We want you to be part of the conversation. That’s why we’ll have a Leave A Comment link near the title of every post. We enjoy the give and take, the witty banter and the heartfelt reflection each of you can bring to the exchange if you choose.
While we’re here we ought to laugh and love, learn and play together while we share time in the sandbox.
We hope to post on a regular schedule three times per week: Monday, Thursday and Saturday. This week we are simultaneously publishing one post from each of us as we launch. So next week we will assume the regular schedule.
Our oldest daughter Dusty writes about the tribulations and advantages to having a younger sister look out for you when a beau comes courting in My Bodyguard.
We’ve all come to expect deep thoughts on religious and life-altering themes from Sally. That’s why it’s such a surprise in her inaugural piece for the blog she ponders the unexpectedly-spiritual aspects of the porcelain throne in A Brief Dissertation on Toilets.

For a cleansing of the reader’s literary palate and a lovely change of pace Shannon shares one of the originals characters from her sketch collection with Star-Crossed Starco.
The pieces this week tilt toward the light-hearted except for Bonnie’s entry on bullying and name-calling, Sticks and Stones.
Finally, as I have become de facto editor of this blog I recently harkened back to the day in high school where I experienced my first editorial authority on the school newspaper. As one deadline approached I faced a harrowing decision to publish as is or to alter an article I had written. How could that cause consternation? Find out in One Simple Letter.
More on the blog itself and the writer bios may be found in About This Blog.
Clicking on any of these links or the picture above will take you to From Here To Eternity. From there you’ll find these posts archived in the right hand column. We hope you’ll enjoy reading as much as we enjoy sharing. Thank you for giving us a try!

Oh, you sweet-talker, you. Thank you for your kind words, Marcie. Sally wrote most of that album and I agree it is gorgeous. My favorite is “At The Table.” We hope you enjoy catching up with us from time to time here at From Here To Eternity.
